Effective strategic planning is essential to ensure the achievement of an organisation’s operational goals. This course will give you the tools and techniques required to participate in strategic operational planning within an organisation. It will use a variety of practical and theoretical teaching methods, including case studies, to ensure the most effective learning for participants.

  • Conduct a VRIO analysis
  • Conduct a SWOT analysis and make decisions for the organisation
  • Undertake scenario planning
  • Create an Executive Summary
  • Translate an organisation’s goal into workable and staged actions

Day 1: Introduction to Strategic Operational Planning

  • Understanding the difference between strategic planning and strategic operational planning
  • Exploring how different strategies coexist and align within an organisation
  • Using strategy to extract, analyse, and interpret valuable organisational data

  • Understanding the structure of an ideal strategic operational plan
  • Troubleshooting planning processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

Day 2: Defining Organisational Mission, Values, and Vision

  • Clarifying the difference between a mission statement and a vision statement
  • Developing core values, mission, and vision to guide organisational strategy
  • Keeping organisational values central to the strategic planning process
  • Understanding the importance of having a clearly defined end goal in strategic operational planning
  • Embedding values and vision into everyday business practices to ensure alignment

Day 3: Environmental Analysis and Internal Reviews

  • Analysing micro and macro environments that influence the organisation
  • Understanding the impact of external changes on organisational strategy and operations
  • Reviewing and maintaining flexibility in strategic operational plans
  • Conducting VRIO (Value, Rarity, Imitability, Organisation) analysis for competitive advantage

Day 4: Strategic Decision-Making and Action Planning

  • Applying data synthesis, insight, and creativity to decision making
  • Conducting SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis to inform strategic choices
  • Translating SWOT insights into actionable organisational decisions
  • Evaluating organisational structure and its alignment with strategic objectives
  • Defining what success looks like in terms of measurable outcomes
  • Making holistic decisions that consider both short-term and long-term goals
  • Developing quality strategic action plans with clear steps and objectives
  • Preparing effective Executive Summaries to communicate plans to stakeholders

Day 5: Stakeholder Engagement and Gaining Organisational Buy-In

  • Identifying key stakeholders involved in strategic, operational planning
  • Ensuring flexibility to accommodate different opinions and viewpoints
  • Motivating stakeholders and team members through effective communication
