Course Overview

Ionic Liquids [ILs] are a relatively new class of materials with extraordinary properties that has led to their investigation in various scientific fields. In short, ILs are liquid ‘salts’ in room temperature that exhibit almost zero volatility and extremely desired electric properties for various applications.

They have offered solutions for a range of problems, including green solvents, adsorbents, separation membranes, bio sensors, electrochemical sensors, electronics, etc. Current seminar presents in detail all the theoretical background and their full potential for various applications. The 20 hours CPD seminar is addressed to scientists [chemists, chemical engineers, research staff, academic staff, physicists, investors, university students] and investors of the oil and gas, plastics, membranes, electronics, sensors, solvents and other industries.

Supramolecular structures: Understanding how ionic liquids organize at the molecular level.

Day 2: Interactions and Mixtures in Ionic Liquids

Physical properties of binary mixtures: How ionic liquids interact with other substances.
Intramolecular motions: Understanding how atoms and molecules move within ionic liquids.
Atomic substitution effects: Modifying ionic liquids by substituting atoms and their impact.
Interactions with organic compounds: How ionic liquids react with organic materials.

Day 3: Advanced Topics in Ionic Liquids

Nonaqueous microemulsions: Applications and behaviour in non-water-based systems.
Molecular modelling of ionic liquids: Techniques for simulating ionic liquid behaviour.
Formation of complexes: How ionic liquids form complexes with other substances.
Degradation and recovery: Understanding the stability of ionic liquids and how to recover them after use.

Day 4: Applications of Ionic Liquids in Various Industries

Application in clean oilfield technologies: How ionic liquids are used in the oil and gas sector.
Application in dye-sensitized solar cells: The role of ionic liquids in renewable energy technologies.
Applications of aggregates in ionic liquids: Understanding the behaviour of ionic liquids in aggregate forms.
Quaternary ammonium and phosphonium ionic liquids in chemical and environmental engineering: Specialized ionic liquids in industrial applications.
