Course Overview

This course covers the details and irreversibilities found in real-life chemical reactors due to the nature of design, mass and heat transfer and competing phenomena within the ‘ideal’ vessels. Transport phenomena, kinetics, thermodynamics, computational chemistry and CFD simulation are used to accurately represent the real-life environment and flows within real reactors.

Objective:

By the end of this interactive training programme, you will be able to:

  • Understand reaction kinetics and reaction thermodynamics
  • Understand the concepts of governing steps and multi-step reaction schemes
  • Identify types and classifications of chemical reactions and reactors
  • Explain the fluid flows within vessels
  • Understand multi-phase, multi component flows
  • Understand the differences between ideal vs real industrial reactors
  • See how simulation helps to design, optimize and troubleshoot industrial reactors
  • Understand catalytic reactors
  • Understand competitive phenomena via dimensionless numbers
