The number one place to visit during your training course in Paris is, the Eiffel Tower.
Visit the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
One of the most famous icons of Paris, the Eiffel Tower should be at the top of any visitor’s list.
Located on the Champ de Mars in Paris, the wrought iron lattice tower is approximately 324 metres tall (1, 063 feet) and is officially the tallest structure in Paris.
The Eiffel Tower was designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel. His design for a structure was chosen from a selection of over 107 projects that had been put forward as entries for the 1889 World Fair. After Eiffel’s design was chosen, construction began to take place around 1887. Taking only 2 years, 2 months and 5 days of construction, the structure was officially finished on the 31st of March 1889.
At first criticised by Parisians for its appearance, the Eiffel Tower is now an icon that receives millions of visitors a year.
Although it is magical catching glimpses of the Eiffel Tower throughout the city, between buildings or from apartment windows, the Eiffel Tower is best viewed from the Champ de Mars.
The Champ de Mars is a large, open green park space that stretches from the bottom of the Eiffel Tower to the École Militaire which is a military academy as well as a national French monument. The construction of the École Militaire in 1765 saw to the establishment of the Champ de Mars as a place for military drills. A truly historical place, the Champ de Mars has been the sight for many historical events throughout French history.
Still a parkland space open to the public, the Champ de Mars, acts as the perfect place to gaze up at the Eiffel Tower and take in all its glory. Feel free to relax on the grass, bring a picnic and settle in to enjoy the view.
Visitors to the Eiffel Tower can also climb some of its different levels after purchasing tickets. There is access to the first level, the second level as well as the top. All levels offer absolutely amazing views of the city that will leave any visitor in awe (if they are not afraid of heights that is!).
There are also a few restaurants with different offerings at the Eiffel tower if you are after an unforgettable dining experience or even just a memorable bite to eat.
When the sun goes down the view does not fail visitors either, the Eiffel Tower continues to shine throughout the night, lit up from tip to the bottom by twinkling lights.
