5 ways to build your self-confidence at work

Do you want to boost your self-confidence at work because you know that having a healthy level of self-confidence can help you become successful in your personal and professional life? When you start doubting yourself at work subsequently your performance starts to suffer, it’s important to stop and assess before you do any further damage.

Confidence is important in the workplace not only for success, but also for feeling happy and satisfied.

Here are 5 tried and true ways to build your self-confidence at work:

  1. Be kind to yourself

We’re often our own toughest critic. But if you’re constantly thinking negative thoughts about your abilities and success, it can be hard to improve. So don’t put yourself down! Cut out negative language about yourself, focus on all the great skills you have and milestones you’ve reached, and think about what you can do instead of saying “I can’t.” But don’t forget that’s its ok to make mistakes.  Mistakes help us to learn and improve.

  1. Do one thing that scares you every day

The best way to overcome fear is to face it head-on. By doing something that scares you every day and gaining confidence from every experience, you will see your self-confidence soar. So get out of your comfort zone and face your fears!

  1. Talk yourself up

You’re never going to feel confident if you have negative commentary running through your mind telling you that you’re no good. Think about your self-talk and how that might be affecting your self-confidence. Treat yourself like you would your best friend and cheer yourself on.

  1. Pick up new skills

There is always room for improvement, and learning new skills will not only enhance proficiency at your job, but will also boost confidence. Watch what other people do successfully, and copy how they do it. Attend seminars designed to help you hone your skills and become a better worker. Pick useful skills such as time management, customer service, and productivity, or learn something new that will help specifically with your job.

  1. Shift to an equality mentality

People with low self-confidence see others as better or more deserving than themselves. Instead of carrying this perception, see yourself as being equal to everyone. They are no better or more deserving than you. Make a mental shift to an equality mentality and you will automatically see an improvement in your self-confidence.
